Mazda CX-5 - Buying a Mazda CX-5 from a broker - xtrailman

Drivethedeal.com are offing over £2000 off a 175 AWD sport nav CX-5.

And say they only deal with a UK dealer, yet none of my 3 local dealers will discount.

So whats the catch?

Having never ordered a car from a broker before i am a bit nervous.

A few simple rules about buying from a broker.

Never pay the broker for the car (not even a deposit), only pay the dealer supplying preferably when collecting.

Never pay the broker a finders fee, they get paid by the supplying dealer.

Never buy a car where the dealer keeps the log book for 6 months. The dealer is breaking the law but since you are not the registered keeper it can land you in all kinds of problems getting insurance and parking permits for example.

If the deal looks too good to be true it always is.

If any of the above apply, run away.

Discounts on some cars are few and far between.

However, there is always the garage that wants that extra 10/20 or even 50 sales in the year to make a target/bonus. Locally the dealers may already have made their targets OR running their own mini "price ring".

3 months ago th price for my new car across 4 x local dealers were £17.5K, £18.7K, £19,2K and £19.5K(all plus my T/I car)....................I bought a Cyprus import for £13.7K+ my T/I Car - Spec wise identical apart from my having to buy locking wheel nuts which were standard on UK Car (£36)

No catch with Drivethedeal - they find a dealer prepared to offer discount to offset future volume through increased business.

If you get the DTD offer in writing you may be able to negotiate further with the local dealers to a point where they still cannot offer £2k off but may come close.

If not walk away and buy through Drivethedeal, using Skidpans rules.

Drivethedeal are bulk buyers so can get a better discount than an individual. We used them for our Aygo, dealer best offer was £200 off, DTD was almost £600 and service was excellent.

Ordered through DTD, deposit paid by credit card, next call was from the dealer confirming order, car paid for and delivered.

The only downside is the supplying dealer may not be local so you need to consider collection/delivery issues.

Re skidpans issue re broker holding the V5.

Unfortunatley not all brokers and dealers bother with the laws they see them as a hiderance to get round not something to comply with.

Thanks for all the replies.

DTD do appear to meet Skidpans criterier.

So next year i'll phone round dealers to see if they will match DTD price, if not then i'll be buying my first car from a broker.
