My Mercedes was hit amidships on passenger side today by an old boy who drove his Skoda straight out of a side road without stopping. He admitted liability.

My insurance co has offered a courtesy car but I have heard horror stories about the innocent party being stuck for huge bills for courtesy car hire.

So I declined the offer (I have a spare car I can use while mine is off the road.)

However, my daughter who used to work in the car insurance business says I should take the courtesy car.

How can I guard against being taken for a ride by the courtesy car company?

Thanks

Have the loan car provider ,confirm in writing that neither you nor your insurance company will be be responsible for any hire charges .

Your right to be cautious ,we've had several posts from forum members who've been pursued for large amounts of money by loan car suppliers who couldn't get paid by the other parties insurance company .

If you don't need a courtesy car, and you take it, you aren't minimising your losses. Why bother to get involved, potentially, in some time-wasting dispute with the cowboy fringe?

And make sure you check, with a fine tooth comb, every aspect of the car, including the wheels. Not just a glance, but a really thorough check. My daughter is fighting a £75 claim for spurious damage to a wheel on a loan car.
