Ford Fiesta - 60 plate Fiesta - warranty problem - Danny1983
I own a 60 plate fiesta which has done 18 thousand miles. While at the end of a 120 mile journey last week it developed a strange rattling sound. I pulled into a car park and called breakdown service and was towed home.

The car has been diagnosed by Ford as needing a new short motor which will cost £3750 and they are claiming the fault has originated in a spark plug and ruined the engine from there. As such they are refusing my claim on the warranty. I know hardly anything about cars and have not got a clue what to do next. Surely a car that is only 18 months old should be covered by the warranty on this?

It is BS.. It is their responsibility. Ford supplied the spark plug so it IS THEIR FAULT.

Talk to trading Standrads and read HJ on warranties and Small Claims Court.

(Toyota and Honda are the only honest makers who support customers).

Typical Ford dealer. That's why I went off Fords after owning 7 on the trot. Stand up to them, demand they fix the fault. Good luck.

It wasn't near Derby was it?

If its a dealer in Derby they will say a spark plug is trim and trim is not covered under the warranty.

Well thats what they said when a work colleagues electric handbrake failed.

Dont muck about- find another dealer. It wont even of had a set of new plugs fitted yet ! I hope you have ford service history.

Manufactures are getting very very picky over service history and mileage.

good luck

I have exact same problem. Garage said

you reported struggling at high gear, low speed and lacking acceleration.

On Inspection it was found to be caused by Number 4 spark plug failure. Number 4 spark plug ceramic had broken up inside the engine. All the spark plugs were replaced.

The Fiesta was booked in for diagnosis of the ticking noise on the 29.10.12 following the report from the service.

The engine has been stripped and examined. Number 4 cylinder bore is scored and to rectify this, a short block engine would be required.

Ford warranty turned it down again for same reason eg spark plug. I am complaining to all and sundry and have started a link at the ford forum:www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/38060-spark-pl.../ 9 replies since yesterday. I was trying to find out if others are suffering and it turns out there are. If you want to communicate more we could swap emails. I have also asked a question of Honest John but I can't work out how that bit works.

keep in touch

Yes again another premiture spark plug falier and being the original spark plug from ford and 1 year left on a 3 year warranty with proven full service history by ford. Number 4 cylander again bore is scored short block required ford want £3000 to fix i have been fighting for my cause since not having my car since 11th december 2012. Got priced dropped down to £2200 by kicking off in the service centre if ford have know confidents in there spark plugs then i suggest that they change them every year up to the three year warranty period of the gaurantee.I said to the service manager that the only time they know that they have a problem with a spark plug is when it blows an engine when i then have to foot the bill he just shrugged his shoulders and said yes. ford spark plugs are not even looked at untill the car has done 37500 miles and my car has only done 27000 miles so this is a PREMITURE PARTS FALIER on fords behalf, we all need to get together and fight for the small fish against the SHARKS out there. When a spark plug fails then it just causes a miss fire unless in some cases the spark plug breaks up and damages and marks the bore and pistons which in my case has NOT happend This is a complete rip off by ford and just saying that a original ford spark plug fitted at there manufacturing plant has only a perthetic one year gaurantee is a complete joke and a very handy get out clause for them. I am posting my contact details for any one who would like to arrange any action against the ford motor company we have to fight this together and i am so pleased that now i know that i am not alone on this matter so please contact me I HAVE A PLAN. 07889851633 Alan.

The problem here could be the dealer has run out of warranty money.

Ford pay there dealers up front for warranty claims for the year, once the money has gone then the dealer is expected to bare the cost. If the dealer dealing with this Fiesta is anything like us the pot was dry before Christmas, hideous problems with Kuga and KA water ingress made sure of that!

Approach another dealer in a polite manner and ask them to contact Ford on your behalf, providing the car has a full Ford main dealer history they are usually keen to help in my experence.

Not quite that simple. The Ford warranty is far from the best. In the UK year one is a manufacturer warranty, year 2 and 3 are dealer warranties. The dealer will obviously avoid paying if he can.

We bought a new import a few years ago. The Warranty the car came with was only 2 years and was a manufacturers warranty. Only had a couple of items sorted but the UK dealer did them with no arguments. Very different a few years later when after year one on a UK car the same dealer argued every point.

Don't have a Ford now.

Unless people contact Ford and make a fuss Ford expect dealer to stand cost, wether its into its 1st, 2nd or 3rd year. As you say we are reluctant to pay unless we really have to especially if we have already laid out on a lot of repairs.

We currently have around six Kugas in all with sodden carpets, one Ford has agreed to pay for but only because the owner managed to get hold of the personal e-mail address of a big wig at Ford and is contacting him on a daily basis, its pays to be polite but persistant!

I work for a Ford agent and bought a Fiesta metal brand new, at the same time my Mrs bought a new Fiat panda. Both have had problems but the Fiat managed 10,000 miles before its first breakdown, the Ford only 800 miles. and has been nothing but trouble since.

We are keeping the Panda but the Ford has just just been to problematic so it is going very soon, would I have another? No chance!!

And some of the media tell us Ford are on a par with Audi VW etc. Have found dealer warranties are on a par with some warranty insurance deals. You guys should get onto Watchdog.
