Vauxhall Astra G Petrol - astra g (2003) automatic gearbox fault - cbrpete

hi all, hope someone has come across this before,

have got an astra 2003 1.6 automatic, had a gearbox put in it about 5-6 months ago and it been running ok, parked the car up this evening, left it for about an hour and had to go back out, started the car and went to move the gear shifter and it just moved up and down and did not engage, the car wont move as its stuck in park.

any suggestions would be much appreciated

If it just moves freely back and forth without doing anything, it's likely that the linkage from the shift to the box has come adrift somewhere.
