Rover 45 1.8litre semi automatic - Rover 45 semi automatic cold starting - Lenso

I bought a rover 45 at 35000miles and on my way from buying it the head gasket blew. I had an uprated headgasket fitted as well as the water pump and cambelt. After work was completed, I noticed that each I started from cold and reversed, the car would be jerking as if losing power. Last week I drove frove from London to Nottingham using wipers and lights and I felt loss of power on the motorway and the car wouldn't start the following day. I've changed the battery but after a few days the same problem has started all over again. The car responds with jerks if i try to accelerate quickly.

2 things to watch out for.

The 1.8 suffers with coil pack and lead issues.

Also there is an earth cable from the battery to the bonnet shut panel that often gets left disconnected or simply breaks, bolts up behind the NSF head lamp ,often causing a very poor charge often diagnosed as an alternator issue.

thanks very much, I will have these looked at. Also this evening when driving to work, I could not go above 50mph, each time I accelerated the car would jerk and I had the engine management light flashing for about half a minute.
