I see this featured in car ads as some sort of desirable optional extra when surely it just means 'sidelights are on all the time'?

It's the LED DRLs which seem to be the cool thing of the moment, preferably a long line of them in a L shape. Ooohh look at me!! I
It's a bit like the sidelight/front foglight combo brigade (far too cool to use dipped beam)
I'm not keen on bright lights (DRL or dipped lights) at all. Yes, they're convenient for the user, but to the detriment of the greater good. The arms race in lighting is doing no-one any favours at all.
Audi seem to be the principle offender with their ridiculous Dame Edna 'eyebrows' or whatever they call them
Most of them a bit too camp garish and bling for me, fashion fad of the year..dimdip was excellent for the purpose.
