Toyota Yaris - Engine warning light - P0420 code - Teapot42

Driving back home tonight the engine warning light came on. I checked the code when I got home and it was P0420 which I gather is 'Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)'

Any suggestions on what to check? A quick google throws up all sort of possibilities.

I don't know if it is relevant but nearly 2 weeks ago I had a new exhaust manifold fitted as the old one had cracked. Might it be either debris from this in the system or the sensor having been damaged or dislodged? Is it worth taking the car back to the garage that did the work for them to check?

Also, is the car OK to drive for a while before getting this seen to? I've not really got a good opportunity to get it looked at unless I have to - I've got an interview tomorrow and am away next weekend.

It's a 2000W 1.0 for reference.

Son had this.

Hole in catalyst.

Bodge with exhaust paste lasted 13 months and then new cat and pipe needed £130...

I'll check if I'm back from the interview before it goes dark tomorrow.

I cleared the code so see how long before it comes back, although there was another one pending already so I guess it is something significant.

What is annoying is that I was on the verge of changing the car when the situation at work altered meaning I had to hold off. Since then this is the second potentially expensive thing that has gone wrong with it...

The price I quoted is for an aftermarket part... OE is far dearer.

Oh, yes, I realised that! Still, even £130 is more than I want to have to spend on it. Ideally I wanted nothing more than to have to put fuel in it until either my current job is declared safe, or I get a new one and I can change her for a nice i20...

(Shhh! Don't let her hear, she'll probably find something else to break if she knows her days are numbered!) :):):)
