Hi All. We'll soon be moving to Switzerland, which means giving up our UK cars and buying a 4x4 on winter tyres (we'll be living at 1km altitude, so this is necessary apparently).
My wife has an auto only ilcense and we have 2 young children to accommodate in stage 1 & 2 rear-facing car seats. So, we need:
- 4 x4 - spacious / family sized (boot on Skoda Yeti too small, for example) - automatic - safe (NCAP 4 star min, but ideally 5) - new / up to 2 years old
We'll mainly be doing short journies and, whilst I've enjoyed the torque of my current diesel auto, I don't think this will be a wise choice for the kind of driving we'll be doing in CH. (Also, is it me, or does the heating take longer to get up to temp in a diesel as the engines warm up more slowly / operate at lower temps).
Current front runner is a Mitsubishi Outlander 2.4 CVT. I know this (petrol) version is not sold in the UK, but does anyone have exerience of it?
Finally, since Switzerland is not a member of the EU, there is the option of importing a car from France or Germany etc. Whilst there might be a saving to be had (not sure how large), my gut is telling me to be wary of future repair, servicing and most of all warranty issues. Again, can somone offer experience on this please?
Thanks All!
