Hi all,

Ive just been to look at an 1982 XR3 with a view to buying it. (note this isnt a debate as to weather you like XR3's or not)

The owner didnt have the V5 doc with him and didnt seem keen to go and fetch it, i just put this down to lazyness at the time but now im no so sure.

I have just done a Reg check via text and it says that it was subject to a cat C write off in 1998, the owner didnt mention this when I was looking.

It also says 'No record of VIC inspection' can someone explain what this means? I understand what a VIC check is but why would it have no record of one? Im assuming this is a bad thing? Has it vever had one? Is it even road legal? Or were they not recoreded in 1998 or something?

I know the seller has been using it on the road as it was taxed and MOT'd.

I read the page and then follwed the link for a "Vehicle details enquiry" Which is supposed to show if the vehicle has a VIC marker, but id doesnt! Which is very strange, as it has been written off it should have either a VIC marker in place or have had a VIC inspection but it hasnt had either!!!

So either the insurance company didnt inform the DVLA that it was cat-C or its somehow had an inspection that hasnt been recorded, or its had the marker removed without an inspection it just gets stranger!

I reckon it must be a ringer, there's definatley something iffy going on.

It sounds like a bit of a minefield. If you've got you heart set on an XR3, I would look for one that doesn't have a dodgy background.
