Hello All,

Long time no post, but I'm looking at perhaps leasing a Fiesta Zetec S TDCI for a very attaractive £122 + some vat with a £1k deposit and I wondered if there are any owners out there who have any comments?

I note that HJ likes that engine in the Fiesta

I've got a Mazda 2 ts2 petrol at the mo which is fun, but is noisy, has poor seats and gives about 33mpg at 85mph (much better at 70 but I get so bored)

Can I expect the fiesta to give the holy grail of the same fun handling, comfort and 50mpg at 85? Or not? anything else?

TIA

I think 50mpg at 85 is optimistic. Drag is the main problem at that speed and switching to diesel doesn't solve that. Sorry!

70 is sooo boring-but it works sadly.

Same engine (probably) in SWMBO's C2 VTS, 110 hp 1.6?....if so then above the magic 70 the fuel usage sharpens quickly.

C2 possibly not as aerodynamic as Fiesta, but keep it to 70 or below and she'll return 60 mpg on a journey, run it at 80+ and that drops more than 10mpg, owners with the same engine in C5's seem to get 50 plus at motorway speeds, which is amazing for cars that weigh half as much again, can only put it down to larger cars having better drag figures.

In practice it returns around 53 mpg overall driven quickly and too much stop start for its own good, no quibbles with this engine at all, oodles of torque.

Thanks folks... Yes it's a funny about speed seeming to make less difference to high speed economy. I used to have a Megane CC 1.5 DCI which did mega-economy unless you got up over 90.

I think the Fiesta has a de-tuned version of that engine so I guess the figures will be similar. Looking forward to the torque :-) My little Mazda has a bit of poke but only over 3500 revs at which point it sounds positivley sadistic to keep thrashing it, not to mention the fuel gauge starts to visibly sink

Get a Mazda MX-5. Then there is no screaming and it runs very nicely at all speeds...... ;-)
