Is it me, or have the designers been allowed to run riot? Headlights set in the bonnet like searchlights, windows like pill boxes, tyres like the rubber trees are endangered and wheels like combine harvesters.

Most of the new launches make me hanker after an old 240.#

Mind you, I don't dislike the F-Type as much as I feared I would

I'm waiting to see when one manufacturer actually produces a car with a headlight cluster that reaches right back to the windscreen - with each new car, they get longer, more "artistic" and most likely more expensive to replace in a crash. The daft thing is, they don't illuminate the road any better and are getting (IMHO) to look stupid - there's something to be said for keeping car design simple and elegant (you would've thought they'd learned from Bangle & co that adding more and more curves does not equal a good looking car).

Very few new cars "float my boat" thesedays (from an asthetic pov), and those few that do tend to be badly flawed in other areas or very expensive. Looks like I'll have to wait a bit longer before replacing my current car. Oh well.

I blame Renault for this - the absurd 'bum' they put on the Megane a few years ago seemed to have sparked a craze for ungainly shapes.

Either that or the designers get half the car right. "I'll do the back, you do the front, we'll meet in the middle....ish".

I blame the customers. They buy the rubbish that Renault produce...
