Mitsubishi Outlander - Specialist who can replace satnav hard drive? - Toby Richer

The satnav/music system/radio on my Outlander has packed up - think they call it MultiMedia Communication System...Mitsubishi say it will cost c£2000k plus fitting to replace as it comes as a sealed unit. They can't even diagnose what the fault is but I know it's almost certainly a hard disk failure. A new hard disk would prob cost a few hundred pounds.

Are there any car IT/satnav/AV specialists who could fit a new hard drive and reinstall the software without being held to ransom by Mitsubishi?

Okay I am stating the obvious, so bear with me.

If you can remove the whole unit?

Or get an expert to do so.

Then you can forward it to a computer expert, hard drives are part of that expertise.

Failing that I have seen simliar fold out units and nowhere near the £2000 mark so replacement with simlilar may be an option?

Good luck and I know it is frustrating when things go bang.

Assuming that one could get it out, get into the thing and source a compatible HDD, there's another problem.

The thing quite likely boots up from cold start off a partition on the HDD and the HDD itself may well have a proprietary format.

Without the Mitsu tools to prepare the drive for the unit, it's very unlikely to be possible to get it working that way.

I have the sat nav hard disk failure in my Outlander and Mitsubhishi say the entire unit has to be replaced. In the last two years have you managed to fix the hard disk issue.Or have you found an alternative to get the multi communication system working.

Many thanks,
