toyota prius 2011 10th anniversary model - tyre profile - crf

I wish to fit tyres of a deeper profile to inprove ride comfort and protect the wheel rims

It currently runs on 215/45 R17

Can I fit 50 or 55 profile ?

Would the speedometer be very inaccurate?

I know I would have to advise the insurer

Against my better judgement (and the jury is still out) I have just bought a Prius and I specified 195 55 16 tyres so its definitly option or at least it is here in Germany.

The car is really ok when you get used to it although the sat nav needs a degree in electronics to operate it certainly is economical if somewhat boring to drive,

Just been having a read up on HJ's car reviews, above.

Seems your very special edition came with 17" boneshakers as standard, i can't see you increasing the profile without incurring problems, so you have two options as i see it.

Another set of smaller wheels allowing much bigger profile, especially in 15", or by getting more pliable tyres.

From HJ's review...."Bespoke 15 or 17-inch alloy wheels are available, both fitted with low rolling resistance tyres.''...and Collos above has 16", so you have two smaller alternative wheel sizes to choose from.

I run 17" but in 225/45 section on my elderly MB, it suffered from terrible road noise and harsh ride, but following many hours of reviewing tyres i found a (remarkably cheap and my first venture into budget tyres since being a poor youngster) set that has improved both situations considerably, better than i had hoped and without sacrificing decent grip and handling, economy i couldn't comment on as i don't monitor fuel that carefully....end up driving like a vicar and that would never do..;)
