Small, automatic's. - GHSAUNDERS40
Hi all.

My partner currently drives a 56 plate Toyota Aygo that we have had for some time now. She has recently decided that she wants an automatic as she finds driving manuals quite stressful, and has decided automatic is the best way to go. I looked at trading her Aygo in for a MMT version of the same car or Yaris, however I have since read of the horror stories surrounding the MMT box. Can anyone recommend a good auto that is as cheap to run as an Aygo and costs between 5.5k and 6k?

Thanks

Kia Picanto, Daihatsu Sirion, Suzuki Alto.

Slightly larger models available from Chevrolet and Hyundai with proper automatic boxes, also the excellent Suzuki Swift.

Probably best to avoid anything with an automated manual gearbox whatever clever sounding abbreviations they try to give them, so that excludes almost every European car bar the very rare usually larger engined examples, eg previous shape Citroen C3 SX....not just for reliability either, they are simply diabolical for traffic and close manoeuvering, where the Citroen C3 SX box was lovely.

edit...don't forget the tiny Chev Matiz with proper auto, around town a nicer driving car than you might think.

That's a very specific price requirement.

Honda CVT is excellent... BUT it MUST be serviced regualry and the CVT hearbox oil changed with honda's specific and expensive oil every 24k miles. Fail to do that and £1,000s...

Automated gearbnoxes are pants.

Ford Foci are cheap to run. We've got a 12yr old one with this auto....

.....which hasn't gone wrong and which I haven't noticed causing problems on the internet. It doesn't have a hard time with us as it only has to cope with a 1.6 Zetec engine's power.
