Mk2 Mondeo - Expansion Tank is blowing bubbels - Saunderst

I recently returned for a long run that I have done several times. On getting home I switched off the engine and heard bubbles and saw some steam.

On checking under the bonnet all the hoses were fine but the expansion tank was blowing bubble in through the bottom hose and pushing out the coolant.

When I started the engine this stopped until I switched the engine back off. The engine fan is working fine.

Please advice

Sounds like head gasket leakage I'm afraid.

Any idea of cost to repair?

The gasket itself isn't expensive but there is a lot of dismantling involved, you will be looking at several hundred pounds. A main dealer is likely to be more expensive than an independent garage so I would shop around.
