diesel price - wytchwood
i know it is the old issue but why the price of diesel is 4 or 5 pence more than unleaded. i have 2 diesel cars and i think any advantage of being better efficiency is wiped out by the difference in prices; acceleration hard to achieve similar petrol performance at junctions will cost further. HJ talked about heating oil price but winter is quite mild and crude oil price has gone down, so why?
France diesel price is quite low i wonder what price of diesel in Germany (re: andrew bairsto)?
regards

Because the Government, that so many people voted for, has decided that diesel vehicles do more harm to the environment that vehicles using unleaded. You polute, you pay, as they say.

Personally, I think you should pay twice the price, as you hold everyone up with your slow acceleration. (Joke - though in some cases not.)

Old technology diesels may be slow on acceleration & emitting pollution but
recent/ current models most certainly are not. Joe Public has simply not caught up yet.....he will.

It's a joke: both the Government's attitude, and the idea that diesels are still
old and slow.

This month's edition of Car magazine illustrates the point perfectly with the Golf
1.8T GTI and the Golf GT TDI.

couldn't agree with you more, one of mine is the new breed direct in line (hdi) from peugeot-citroen group. As regard slow acceleration petrol cars are always faster initially, but their torques drop off quite quickly in mid range unlike diesel.
either will take more fuel if drive fast and break unnecessary. the difference can be in between 5 to 10 miles further per gallon depend on styles of driving.

latest prices today are 73.9p unleaded and 79.9p diesel

Even lead replacement petrol is cheaper than diesel in Colchester. Diesel is 80.9p/ltr at Sainsburys. Regarding acceleration, I may be slow in my LDV200 van, but at least no-one has pulled out in front of me or cut me up.

In terms of performance for tax paid, the new VW Passat TDI PD 130 S is probably the most company car tax efficient car you can user-choose. See road test on this site.
