Mitsubishi Shogun (2000) - MoT Advisory - wear on inside of all four tyres - Gruffalobill

I am in negotiations to buy a 2000 Mitsubishi Shogun 3.2 Diesel which is a private sale, 86k and in good condition with service history. On the current MoT is an advisory re all four tyres showing wear on the inside. Should I be alarmed by this ? Does it just mean the wheels need re aligning or could it indicate something more serious and costly ?

Please help before I part with my cash.

How did it feel when test driving?, if it drove well with no undue scrubbing or pulling, then i suspect it might well have front wheel alignment problems leading to wear on the inside edges...the fact all 4 wheels show the same probably means someone has rotated the wheels to even the wear out.

If it was scrubbing all 4 wheels it would likely be most uncomfortable to drive and very prone to premature tyre squealing on the slightest of bends.

Budget your negotiations to take into account the usual suspects, including 4 new tyres if still on the same set.

I would agree, wear on the inside edges indicates that the wheels are towing out, adjusting the fronts should be a simple matter, the rears I don't know, have perhaps the wheels been changed round and the rear wear is as a result of having been on the front?

I suggest caution: there may be hidden crash damage which teh owner could not afford to repair..

Dedcut the price of retracking £32 from ATS , 4 x new tyres and a contingency of £250 from the price.

And if the MOT has less than 9 months to run... ask for a new one to be done. before you buy.

Thanks very much for the replies. Much appreciated. Gives me ammunition to negotiate the price and doesn't sound too horrendous.
