What are the options - Warm / Hot Hatch - notafan

I bought a new Corsa a year ago - 1.2sxi and its rubbish to drive.

I mainly got it for low maintainance, no mot for 3 years etc but I want to change it to something else but aren't sure what to consider.

Biggest problem is there is no acceleration and its slow. I'm on A roadroads and the motorway a fair bit now and overtaking is a pain and not even possible sometimes. Pressing the pedal in 2,3,4,5 and nothing much happens - its not faulty always been the same, i think the car is too heavy for the engine.

Looking at 8-9k to spend at the top end with trading the Corsa in.

Love the DS3 (1.6 D sport) but couldnt afford one but something along those lines. I probably do enough mileage to warrant a diesel (about 15k per year) but never had a diesel and bothered about the potential problems and don't want it to be slow again either.

Looked at the 207 but there's quite a few models - GT / GTI - i know they stopped making them about 2009 but could get one of these roughly the same as the Corsa is worth. Also looked at the 1.6 petrol allure - but its slower then the GT even though its newer? Also looked at the 207 1.6HDI - i know its probably not hot hatch teritory but figure it'll be still miles quicker then the corsa.

Driven a Fiesta Zetec S diesel and thought it was ok not tried the 1.6 petrol.

Not keen on the looks of the clio

Overall I want something thats fun to drive and noticeably quicker then the corsa and a lot less dull.

Have a look at the Suzuki Swift in its higher proformance spec.

Its suppose to be a cracking warm hatch.

Skoda Fabia vRS (1.9 TDI) are supposed to be quite good.

Suzuki Swift - the 1.6 litre sport

Honda Civic Type S (1.8 Petrol / 2.2 i-CDTI) - Both are 140BHP and 0-60 in 8.9s.

VW Golf 1.4TSI if you can get one in budget.

There's a few options to look at!

You need to go out and look/drive at each brand - then you won't be disappointed next time.

The Civic type S is the one to go for, but not with the 1.8 petrol, I drove a new demonstrator the first week the model came out and got it back and asked what was wrong with it-absolutely no go in it at all unless it was thrashed within an inch of it's life-the 2.2 diesel is a different matter, great bucketloads of torque everwhere, a very quick car and economical too if you don't hoof it all the time-had one since 2008 and very pleased with it.

I had a 1.8 civic, it wasn't slow, but you're right, you needed to rev it to get the power!

All Jap petrols have a similar problem
