Citreon Xantia - Red Stop Light on 2000 model xantia - N.P

I have a 2000 model Citreon Xantia 2.0HDI (90bhp with air con) and the red stop light flashes intermittenly with the red light on the temp gauge, I have changed the two fan motors in front of the rad twice and the lights stopped for a short while but now back again, I also noticed recently that when the cab heater/cooler fan is off the lights dont flash, any ideas please.

thanks N.P

It sounds as though you have located the problem area, what does the temperature gauge read when the light is flashing? If its normal you probably have a faulty sensor, if its showing hotter than normal, still could be a sensor or ir is actually overheating.

Temp never goes above 90deg, If I start the car 1st thing in the morning with the heater off the stop light & temp gauge light wont flash, but within seconds of putting on the heater on cold or hot the warning light will come on. A Citreon garage had said that the lights wil come on if the engine is in fear of overheating, and this is when the fans should cut in, thats when I changed the two fan motors, but they dont kick in all the time

is there one or two sensor's and roughly where are they located,

many thanks

We had the same problem on a Xsara with the 90bhp HDI engine. Changing the sender in the end of the head cured the problem
