Peugeot 406 Hdi - Click-on air-con pipes - Malky

My 406 has developed an air-con leak in the pipe between the low pressure valve and compressor. Haynes refer to the pipe as "click on" presumably at the valve end and at the compressor end the connection is referred to as H/PAD. How easy is it to remove this pipe and replace? Are any special tools required?

These are known as "springlock fittings".Used widely on cars of the 80s and 90s,especially Ford models. It is simply a male and female connector where the female end of the pipe has a bell end .As the male section is engaged,a garter spring jumps over the bell and locks the two pipes together. You will need a special tool to dismantle the fitting, but no tools are needed to put it back together. The pad fitting is just a bolt together connection.hth

you would have thought the male would have the bell end
