Volvo s70 - Volvo Power steering - Humperdink

Dear all,

I have a 1997 volvo s70 that runs fine, but needs power steering fluid fluid to be topped up every now and then probably every 2 - 3 months.

A garage changed the steering rack because they said the previous one had been leaking, not sure they have done a good job.

I never see and evidence of leaks anywhere, should I have a go at chaging the pump?

Thanks

ps its the 10valve 2.5petrol

If you can get close enough to the pump to have a look at it you should be able to see signs of fluid on it if it is leaking, if not it could be a hose connection that is weeping but if it only needs topping up every few months it would probably a lot cheaper just to do that and not worry about it providing it works OK. At least you are checking it, that's more than a lot of people do.

Same happened to me in a Mercedes C200. The pump and reservoir were in the same housing so had to be replaced as one, or the alternative was simply to top up every few months when the noise got too loud.

It was cheaper and easier to top up.
