vauxhall corsa c 2004 1.2 - ticking noise from new engine. chain 12 months old - paulhr1976
hi

i have had a few problems with my car. had to have the timing chain changed 12 months ago. cost £450.

two months ago started making a loud ticking noise again. before i had a chance to take it into the garage something happened and the engine broke. snapped one of the pistons.

took it back to the garage who said i needed a new engine fitted. they sourced a second hand one. duly got that fitted. another £700.

now my question is the ticking noise has come back. is there a minimum life for chains and should i need a new one allready?

thanks for any help you can give

Yes, but the new chain you had was on your old engine? The replacement engine may well have its original chain and that could be on the way out. You don't say how many miles the secondhand engine already had on it.

Sounds like either you were unlucky with the replacement chain on your original engine and got a duff one, or there was some other problem at the root of the failure. Definately should last significantly longer than a year.
