International Driving Permit - Canada - autumnboy

Shortly will be travelling to Canada again for forth time and shall be driving a hire car in Vancouver and Alberta. Having driven on each ocassion with my UK photo and paper license with no problems with any of the car hire companies.

Recently on the AA site I see they recommend to have a IDP to drive in Canada. Have any legal requirements changed since 2007 to drive in Canada needing to have this permit.

Well I hired a car in Vancouver in 2009 with my UK licence, and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website says that you don't need an IDP.
