Mitsubishi Galant GLS - Selling My Car - How Honest?! - DanF

I am going to sell my 1998 Mitsubishi Galant. It has been a faithful servant for 4 years and has never let me down. It's Now done 135,000 miles and has 11 months mot. There are other positives but I'm not tnying to sell it you dear reader! My question is - is complete honesty the best policy? Aside from the warm feeling I will have of knowing I have not misled a fellow human, will being honest (warts and all) actually help me sell the car? The bad bits are that the front suspension has a nasty creak to it. The creak was there when the car was MOTd and did not cause it to fail. Last week the top mounts were replaced but creak is still there. In addition, the clutch can sometimes (for at least 2 years on and off) make a bit of noise when changing down gear. It is not in any way slipping though. Also air con has packed up. Will being honest help me sell it, or will it scare people off? I am sure that the other 14 year old cars for sale will have their own niggles, but I don't see anyone on autotrader owning up to them! Thoughts?!

What happens to the suspension creak in wet weather? Could just be dry, flexible joints, we used to brush a bit of old brake fluid on them.

Have you tried a drop of oil on all the visible, pivot points of the clutch mechanism, starting at the pedal?

As long as you don't advertise or claim it's got air-con, then you're not deceiving anyone.

Suspension noise is possibly a seizing bottom ball joint, but as BT says a good spraying with oily stuff (i use waxoyl for such things cos it doesn't affect rubber) usually shuts things up, if it doesn't then possible a seized swivel.

I imagine anyone wanting to buy the car will expect a few faults anyway, don't claim immaculate or mint or such meaningless sales patter.

Always liked Galants, Mitsi's answer to Camry, never liked Mitsi's parts pricing though., how much?..strewth.
