On 31st March 2012 my brother was caught doing 35 mph in a 30 according to an NIP. My father sent his registered keeper portion back to the police and identified my brother as the driver and informed my brother he had done so and sent him the remaining part of the form minus the bit he had sent off himself as registered keeper. My brother sent off the page asking for the speed awareness course option at a cost of £80. He heard nothing. He then received a new NIP for the same offence. I have phoned the police for my brother - who is autistic - to see what is going on. Apparantly the form that my brother sent back had to come from his own address and not my dad's so they sent him another NIP to his own address. Time limit for return is 14th June. This NIP has the wrong name spelling on and is dated the 10th May 2012. In addition, my brother is adamant he was only doing 32/33 mph and was in the middle of a conversation about just that with his passenger when he was caught on the hand held device used to capture the speeding details. He knows he was not doing 35mph as statedon the NIP.
What can he do? He has the form filled in asking to go on the speed awareness course but before we send it off I would like to know if there is anything he can do about the incorrect speed and does the name spelling make any difference? I would be very grateful for some advice aboutht e best way to proceed. Thank you very much.
