I've always thought of Rovers as old mens cars, but just seen this one and it's great on fuel as it's a diesel, in a nice black and silver, with leather seats and has done 64000 miles and they want £3000. mot due in aug though. Any thoughts?

Worth a look I'd say, but you should get the vendor to have a new MoT test done so that you get 12 months. Have a look on Autotrader and see what comparable 75s go for: £3,000 sounds quite a lot for a 9-year-old car.

I've only ever driven a petrol 75, as a hire car for a couple of days - make sure you can live with the dashboard, in dark wood with sepia-coloured instruments. It reminded me of a 1940s front parlour, only ever used when Great-Aunt Bertha came to stay, or there was a death in the family (or both).

I too had a petrol one on hire some time back. I rather liked the dash, very Rover.

Undoubtably the best ride of any mass-market vehicle I've ever driven. Felt like the old BMC hydrolastic cars with their zero body roll on corners and total insulation from lumps in the road surface, only without the dive, squat and "float" that system was legendary for. Went where I pointed it well too. I still have no idea how they did it on the cheap, without all the fancy electronically controlled cobblers others resort to. Every other manufacturer should buy one and learn from it.

Diesel ones have legendary levels of reliability. That BMW engine was bulletproof anyway, but the "cooking" version in the 75 is even less stressed.

I ran a MG ZTT diesel for quite a while it did what it said on the box new clutch at 110k but what was not all that good on fuel and an auto is even worse.I suggest you do bit of homework first regarding tax and insurance, there are far better and more practical vehicles out there in market place. If you do buy make sure the well in front of the windscreen which holds the main ECU has no water in it and the pleniums are free a fried ecu is a little expensive to repair and is often the death knell of the vehicle.

The 2.0 BMW Diesel engine fitted to the Rover 75 is a good engine - great power and economy and good for 200k+. Don't know about the auto box though.

Slightly suspicious about the low mileage though, back in 2003 diesels were usually bought by higher mileage drivers. At 64,000 on a 2003 thats only just over 7000miles/year?

Thanks for all the replies, I've been away. I agree the low mileage oddly concerns me, especially as it has had 3 previous owners. A friend who worked at Rover said nice car, but the silver trims were notorious at leeting in water and he felt for my life with children the boot was too small.
