Left Hand Drive for Morocco - Advice Needed - Rashid

My Dad wants to buy a left hand drive car, and export it to Morocco. As all the LHD's in the UK, seem pretty high, we're looking at buying used from Europe.

Does anyone know the best way to go about this??

Any tips / advice for good countries to buy used, or likewise places to avoid.

We were thinking Holland or Germany.

In Germany you can buy a car no problem if you are registered to live there ask the dealer for a transit plate this will allow three days of insured travel. If you are not registered you have a problem getting the transit plates. Second hand car prices are way way above UK prices in mainland europe so some homework is required.

NL is a bust. New car prices are artificially inflated by swingeing taxes on them and this has a knock on effect into secondhand prices.

Not registerted in Germany. Are Transit platres the same as Export Plates? I thought that it was Export plates that we needed, but haven't looked into this fully yet.

Thanks for the tip, re NL. I'm now also thinking about Spain, being close to Morocco is handy.

As the Euro is currently at a low, I wonder if I could get a better than average deal.

As a benchmark, should I be looking at paying less than a UK RHD?

Thanks for the replies so far.

Secondhand prices in Spain are fairly high, but with the current recession some negotiation should be possible. In theory you need to be on the local government electoral roll to buy a car and register it - not sure of the requirements for immediate export - like most things in Spain, I'm sure there are ways!

Transit plates allow you to travel anywhere in the EU for three days if you wish to take out of the EU then you will have to transport it.

Even taking into account the strong exchange rate the second hand car prices in Germany are astronomical there is a massive export business with secondhand cars being exported to all African states plus the eastern states this keeps the price high.Probably better to buy in Morocco if LHD is essential.
