All - How to deal with Deceased Keeper on V5 - Roly93

My father recently passed away, and I have just agreed to sell his car to a family friend.

The question is, how do I deal with the registered keeper aspect of the V5 ?

I am an executor of the will and as such have probate forms, can I just sign the V5 and send it off to DVLA with a letter of explanation and probate form ? Anyone have any experience of this.

If it is still taxed, it relatively cheap and can be towed more easily than an untaxed car.

Also, you may be able to AA/RAC/Greenflag rescue it, on a trailer, but only while it's taxed.

If you're going to sell it. these points may be interesting to prospective purchasers and add to its value.

Just a few ideas to think of before declaring it SORN.

This isn't the situation. It is fully taxed and in the garage at home, I have already agreed the sale.

Hi roly ,it's not to complicated ,just fill in the v5 with the buyers name and details as you would with a normal sale . The dvla will still issue a reg doc to the new owner without a sellers signature on the v5 .

Give the v5c2 ,the green slip ,to the new keeper .

To cover yourself as executor of the estate ,make out an invoice from yourself ,to the buyer ,confirming that you have the right to sell the car ,also have an independent third party sign the agreement to confirm the amount that was paid for the car .

You need an independent witness to the transaction if people other than you are benefitting from the estate .
