Ford mondeo - Rattle on startup - jimmyears
On start up of mondeo 2.2 tdci there is a rattle like a bearing being worn rev the engine slightly the engine slightly it goes away someone said it sounded like the exhaust blowing. I spoke to local ford and they say common problem and £350 to fix new pulley wheels and tensioner required. Anyone here about this

It'll be fine until the chain skips a tooth, or breaks, then it's new engine time.

First. I would say you need an acurate diagnosis , whether its dual mass flywheel, cam chain or belt tensioner.
I guess if you run car hot and switch off and restart noise isnot there ? If you leave overnight and start its a wirring rattle that goes after 20 seconds or with a rev. If that's the case I would get the chain checked. I wouldn't leave as they did suffer with failing slippers. Or guides and tensenoirs. Hope its just a polybelt.
