Hi all thank you for your time ,
I went to buy a golf yestoday and fell in love with it amazing car everything I've wanted did a hpi check and it came back as been stolen in April 2010 alarm bells ringing I asked to see the log book
The strange bit the car had been taxed the day before at the dvla office direct also the car has had 2 previous owners after April 2010
The owner said the marker was on the car due to the wheels been stolen so soon as i got home I paid £15 for a RAC check it came back saying
VrM currently recoreded by the insurance company as a theft
But the VRM was totaly clear with the police
All the vin numbers are there intact and match the reg ect so who can I inform to cover my back before a buy this car ? Would my insureance tell me would the police know ?
Thank you

Walk away - don't let your heart overrule your head.
It may be a "stolen recovered" but there's enough warning bells that it may not be that straightforward.

And you don't know how the thief treated the car while it was in his possession - although you can guess.
There are lots of Golfs around so you should find another one which matches your needs.

Hi ,the car is almost certainly a stolen recovered vehicle ,it means that the owner was paid by his insurance company ,and the car was recovered by the police at a later stage .
The car will have this information permanently registered against it by HPI ,it's not possible to remove the information from the system .
Because of the HPI marker the car will always be worth less than a car without it .Because of this marker you should be paying substantially less for the car than you would normally , about 20% less would be a rough estimate .
If the dealer is willing to sell the car at that kind of price ,get the rac to do a full check on the car ,the cost is about £200 for the check .Potentially the car has problems that an rac inspection would reveal .
The price is the main issue with a car like this ,if the price is right it could be worth buying .Do remember though ,that when you come to sell it on or part exchange it .That it will always be worth less than a car without the marker .
Good luck
