Vauxhall Astra G Petrol - Engine Warning Light - Is it an MOT fail - wmathias

Hi,

A warning light is permanently on on my dashboard. It's in yellow and it's a little picture of a car with a spanner. It is on due to an ECU fault and all the car's systems work fine.

Will my car fail it's MOT on this now or in the near future due to the MOT rule changes, assuming everything else is OK? Incidentally, It passed it'd last MOT with it on.

Many thanks,

Will

An engine mil light on (malfunction indicator) is not at present an mot fail .Neither is an airbag warning light. The only light that has to work correctly is an Abs brake warning light. This situation will change in the very near future ,but as yet nothing is confirmed.hth

Cheers for your help!

My MOT runs out in August. Should I take it for an MOT now do you think or would I not be allowed as my MOT has too long to run?

I thought the change took place 1st January just gone - and that advisories would be issued until March 31st (tomorrow) after which it'll be a fail.

Or did I misunderstand the announcement?

Try googling (other web search engines may be available) new MOT requirements or something similar.

It would appear you're in the clear, however if it's indicating an engine management problem your emissions may be outside limits.
