Hi there,
I really would appreciate help with this. I own a VW POLO from 2001. Its automatic and Left Hand Drive. Only has 35K miles on the clock.
While driving at any speed there is a low rumble when turning left. It is also associated with a related slight vibration that I feel through the steering column. It does not occur when turning right. It sounds like a rubber flap rubbing against a fan, but think it must be coming from the front wheel drive/transmission or related steering.
It does not occur when stationary. Motor sounds very smooth. I have noted when it occurs and it it is not related to accelleration, but it changes pitch and speed of sound/vibration with the movement of the car.
Perhaps associated is a heavy clunk when steering fully locked right in slow reverse and same when fully locked left on slow forward turning left.
Hope that's enough to help get an indication of what it might be. I had it fully serviced before dropping it down to where it live in Italy. Needless to say, I woudl love to be more confident about the diagnosis before entering an Italian Garrage!
thanks
