This morning went to fuel up on the way to taking swmbo to work and all the pumps covered except for the v-power diesel, luckily the attendant recognised swmbo is a doctor and allowed us to fill up as there is no public transport here in west wales before 8 in the morning and after 6pm,

Supply to Shell stations seems sporadic here (Macclesfield). Yesterday, one local Shell was closed completely; one had no diesel; yet another one had ALL pumps working.

An advantage of using premium diesel is, it never seems to run out. During the fuel strikes in 2000, it was the same with high-octane petrol around here .... I saw people drive onto forecourts and drive off again because there was only high-octane juice available

All seems well here at the moment.

I filled up at my local Shell and the only pumps out of supply were the V-power premium petrol ones!

They only voted to give the go ahead for strike action, it's not writ in stone that such action will go ahead.

Must be scab action already though, just seen an Asda tanker unloading at our nearby supermarket...oh no not scab they're not actually on strike are they.

Noticed this morning that diesel had gone up again, and there were queues out onto the road last night as numerous muppets clogged the forecourt.

Odd coincidence that.....

I notice that the price of Brent crude has risen to within a dollar of its 3 year high..And diesel and petrol prices have risen.

Odd coincidence that ..:-)

Bit bizarre this. There seems to be some people rushing out to buy petrol but most people aren't bothered. Some garages are selling out, others are fine. I dont understand peoples mentality, for starters why fill up now? Surely you'd panic next Thursday and secondly there is no strike planned.

Its a herd mentality and also a selfish one. If there are queues garages should have a 40 litres minimum policy, this will stop those who follow Camerons crazy advice to top up when they get the opportunity and then queue to put 10 litres in the car.

I have just been to our local supermarket and couldn't get in the car park due to the petrol station queue. Same the other night when I actually needed fuel, went to another station, no queues and a penny cheaper.

Well Dave Cameron telling everyone to go out and top up their tanks (plus any available jerry can) won't help!

It's a kind of herd mentality. People see a queue and think 'blimey - I'd better join the queue before they sell out'.

I feel sorry for anyone planning to head off for the Easter Holidays - can you imagine the potential chaos of hundred of thousands of holidaymakers all trying to top up their tanks in some of the more rural parts of the country? So many smaller filling stations have now closed, that there just isn't the same kind of resilience there might have been 10 or 15 years ago. I used to have a choice of 5 or 6 filling stations within a 5 minute drive, but I'm now reduced to 2.

Cameron's statement was weird. He basically said 'panic, but dont panic, but if you will panic then only panic a bit, but dont que!!! no need to que!! we want queless panic.'

Thanks for that Jamie - I now have this image of Dave Cameron as Corporal Jones. Not that I was ever a great fan, but now I'll never take him seriously!

I dont understand anybodies rushing out. Even if they confirm a strike they have to operate as normal for at least 7 days first. The day before the strike is the day to be concerned.

I'm panicking about panicking too early. What if I fuel up NOW, but the strike doesn't happen until Easter weekend by which time I've run out of fuel again?

Tanker drivers - Fuel Strikes - Graham567

Had to que up for 25 minutes tonight to put £25 quids worth of petrol in.I have just been past the same garage 5 minutes ago and they are still queing at 11 o'clock at night!

The garage has said theres another tanker delivery at 7.30am tomorrow so why bother panic buying?

Some news reports have suggested some garages are rationing. I remember during a previous strike the lateral thinker Edward de Bono suggested people be allowed to fill up as much as they wanted as long as it was over a minimum amount of fuel - say 25 litres. That way people only queued when they had capacity in their tank and not repeatedly for small amounts. Good idea but hard to enforce I guess.
