MY MEGANE KEEP CUTTING OUT AND I'VE NOTICED THAT THE THERMOSTAT IS AT ZERO WHEN THIS HAPPENS, WHEN THE THERMOSTAT IS AT 1/4 OR 1/2 IT RUNS FINE BUT EVERY NOW AND AGAIN IT DROPS TO ZERO FOR NO APPARENT REASON AND THE CARS CUTS OUT. I HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF CARS WHATSOEVER SO WOULD BE GRATEFUL FOR ANY ADVICE. I RECENTLY HAD THE CAM SHAFT SENSOR CHANGED AS THE MANAGEMENT LIGHT WAS ON AND A DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE SAID THAT THIS WAS THE REASON. THE LIGHT HAS NOW GONE OFF BUT NOW HAVING THESE PROBS WITH THE CAR. PLEASE HELP !

I'm guessing that you mean the temperature gauge is on zero when the car cuts out?

The thermostat is under the bonnet and helps the engine reach running temp quickly.

If your car is a 1.6 petrol engine they have a known problem with a camshaft dephaser pulley which can cause the same symptoms. If I were you I'd let a garage look at it rather than resorting to guess work, as replacing parts on a whim can be expensive.
