LPG - why the price differences - Ethan Edwards

Three garages two within a mile of each other and a 4 p a litre difference.

Last night I filled up at one for 76.p a litre. But whilst there I spoke to another 'gas guy' and he said that he had passed Sainsbury's at Beckton where LPG was 69.9 that very day. He was kicking himself for not stopping.

This got me pondering why is the price is so variable? Even two Total garages I pass every day always but always have different LPG prices. How do they price it? Throw dice?

No different to other fuel. The cost of fuel reflects the operational costs of the fuel station. The cheapest fuel near me is a Shell station about half a mile from the motorway which gets thousands of cars passing every day. It is consistently 1p a litre cheaper than any of our local supermarkets. The most expensive Shell station I pass is close to every local main car dealer who use it to fill cars - it is 3-5p a litre more than a Shell station 2 miles further along the same road.

Tesco don't have national pricing on their products, why should fuel stations?

I spotted a full 10p/l difference between petrol and diesel at one garage the other day. I always try to fill up near to home - if I am near Lancaster I refuse to cough up £1.40/l for petrol!!!
