Hi All,
I have been having trouble starting my Peugeot 306 Turbo Diesel.
It started by just taking a little longer than usual to get it to fire up, and progressivly got worse until the point where it will not fire up without easy start.
This has not just happened on cold mornings, but also if the car had been left for more than 2 hours without the engine running.
Things that I have done, in order;
- Checked voltage to glow plugs, showing roughly 12V on all
- Changed glow plugs
- Checked that the stop valve on the pump (lucas) was working, did this by listening out for it. Can hear an audiable click.
- Changed the battery for a Bosch 600+ Crank Amp
- Changed fuel filter and seal
- Cleaned the fuel strainer in the tank, did notice a large build up of dirt in on the strainer
- Fixed what seemed to be a small leak on the join going to the bulb primer
- Bled fuel lines using the bleed nipple on the pump
Before I changed the fuel filter I noticed that when I pressed the primer bulb, a small amount of bubbles would appear from the fuel filter, visable in the clear pipe between the filter and pump.
Also, when starting the car, I do get a fair amount of white smoke out of the back. Would this suggest unburnt fuel?
Once the car is going, it runs fine with no noticable loss of power.
The only things that I can think of that could be causing the problem still are;
- Faulty non return valve in primer bulb?
- Glow plugs that I bought, are either faulty or the incorrect type?
- The small amount of air I am seing is causing the problem?
- Lack of compression?
Any suggestions would be brilliant, as Easy Start won't fix it! Just prolong the its agony!
Thanks for any help
