Dodge Ram - Advert on HJ - Auristocrat

Interesting to see the American advert for the Dodge Ram on HJ. Pre-tax prices range from £ 16341 to £ 20,400 for basic vehicles. Fuel consumption figures range from 11mpg for City to 16.6mpg for Highway (converted from US to Imperial).

It's the other way round. 16mpg (UK) city, 24mpg(UK) highway. Very impressive for a vehicle that size-especially given that the FTP 75 test involves much harder driving than the pathetic european NEDC.

Chrysler have been using cylinder deactivation since 2003-although Audi have apparenty just invented this concept.

Didnt the 300C 5.7 have that? Only used four cylinders when you were just pootling.

My Samsung phone converts 20mpg (US) for highway consumption quoted in the advert to 16.6mpg (UK).

That's why you shoudn't blindly rely on technology! ;)

1 US gallon =3.75litres

1 Imperial gallon =4.5litres

Sorry - combination of tiredness, pleurisy and anti-biotics

One of my colleagues had a 7-series BMW V12 that did this many years ago.

That'd use 6, 8 or 12 cylinders as required.

I think GM's northstar V8 engine in the early 90's used cylinder deactivation.

I think the Chevy Small block OHV did-because it was easier to implement on an OHV engine. I wasn't aware of it being applied to the Northstar. Then of course there was GM's first attempt with the 8-6-4...

Both Cadilac and Mercedes were using cylinder de-activation years ago and still do,
