Hi, my car failed to start shortly after i'd had it through the car wash. The problem has since been diagnosed as a drowned ECU. The lad at the garage has identified a couple of areas where the water managed to get into the ECU box, the most obvious of these being a definite V shaped cut into the box.

A couple of months ago my wiper blades stuck, due to the common problem of a corroded linkage. The work to replace this was done at HiQ. My question is; does the ECU Housing Box have to be removed or touched to gain access to effect a wiper linkage replacement, meaning it could have been damaged by HiQ. Also, is the quote of £950 for a new ECU accurate?

Many thanks

Andy

I don't doubt that the ECU housing was damaged while repairing your wipers, but proving it will be difficult. Worth speaking to the manager of HIQ though.

Have you tried thoroughly drying the ECU & connectors.

There are companies that specialise in ECU repairs, Google & see if there is someone local, otherwise there is this company :- www.bba-reman.com

UPDATE

Thanks for your reply. I had the repair done at a cost of 750 pounds. The garage that did it gave me the damaged ECU housing box also. I took it straight to HiQ where they agreed to look into the matter. 2 weeks later I received a cheque for the full amount and a letter of apology. Some clouds really do have silver linings :)

Thanks for your help.

It's bad that one of HiQ's monkeys botched the job in the first place, but that's excellent customer service that they were willing to hold their hands up without a fight.

And thanks for reporting back.
