Peugeot 306 - replacing drive shaft on a 1999 T reg Peugeot 306 - cherry1980

Hi. im thinking of buying a Peugeot 306 and have seen a 1999 petrol T reg model which has done 90k. its £650 and only problem reported is that the drive shaft has started going. is this going to cost me a lot to fix and is it worth buying the car with this fault? what kind of problems will it throw up when driving? thanks

Not to expensive if you do it yourself a secondhand one would probably suffice. If you have to pay I would think about an hours work for the nearside or an hour and a half if its the offside as this has a centre bearing. If it drives OK I wouldn't worry about it as they don't usually fail suddenly. What are the symptoms?

the seller is trade and has said it will be ok for now and if it was their car they wouldnt even bother doing it. . there is a slight pulsing on the steering wheel and gearstick but other than that its hardly noticeable- in fact if they hadnt said i dont think i would have thought anything was amiss but he just said that obviously they have to make buyers aware of any potential faults, even if minor.

i just wanted to get a second opinion as didnt want to buy it and then find out id been a bit of a mug as it were!! is it an ok price then what he is asking for the car given its age and mileage?.im having a baby in Feb so need a bigger car- only got a KA at the moment u see. need something that is gonna be ok as a family car for next couple of years as money is going to be tight.

he said it would be £65 for the part and £40 labour if they repaired it- does this sound reasonable? as if not i have my own garage where i go and he is a french car specialist so guessing it might be better to get him to do it. thanks

If you are happy with the car I wouldn't worry about it, you would probably be able to get one cheaper on ebay or even a diesel for the same price but if you don't want the hassle and can afford it go ahead, the mileage is quite reasonable.
