while traveling at 55 mph or more there is a drone noise with vibration coming from the front of car.The faster you go and the longer you travel the worse it gets.If you dip the clutch or put it into neutral while traveling the noise and vibration disapears.It is similar to binding brakes but obviously is not.Any ideas.

Sounds suspiciously like a wheel bearing, try steering in both directions and see if its louder in one, if it is its most likely the bearing on the opposite side to the way you are steering. The only other thing I can think of is the centre bearing on the o/s driveshaft.

bearings are are ok.Ican travel at 70 in neutral and everything is quiet. cheers peter.

Whilst in neutral, try raising the engine revs by gentle application of the throttle. Does the noise re-appear? If so, it could be some sort of resonance due to the exhaust/heat shields.

Has it had any work done lately?

Could still possibly be the drive shaft bearing as this will move according to the load on it. Does it do it on the overun too?

yes noise comes on when revs are matched with speed.Will check heat shields as soon as pos.Thanks.

just checked heat shields all ok well fastened down.
