Citroen Berlingo Multispace - Citroen Berlingo Clutch problems 2.0 HDi - Le Gallois

Our 2003 Citroën Berlingo 2.0 HDi has been amazingly trouble-free for 200 000 km. (we live in France). Extremely reliable, comfortable, roomy, we love it.

Then Oct 2009 the clutch cable broke. A main dealer replaced it but said that the diaphragm had become hardened and the clutch mechanism needed replacing. We shopped around and our nearby independent Citroen specialist got the job.

April 2010 clutch cable broke. Replaced under warranty.

June 2010 service - noted a squeaky thurst bearing.

July 2010 clutch cable broke (on holiday in UK) - replaced. Clutch very stiff - needs stripping down.

July 2010 clutch cable broke on way to ferry. Clutch mechanism replaced again. Thrust bearing troubles.

October 2011 clutch cable broke. Automatic adjuster mechanism faulty.

November 2011 - thrust bearing has started singing again...

Any idea what's going on ? What's causing our recurring clutch problems ?
