Renault Koleos - Renault Warranty Claims - pmits

We are in dispute with Renault.

My company runs a number of renaults all bought from Renault Wirral. We had a 58 plate Renault Koleos that had an engine failure at 28,971 miles. The vehicle was 6 months old when we bought the car from the main dealer.

We have had the one service performed on the Vehicle in July 2010 and the second service is due, by time, as the service indicator say 2000 miles to the next service.

Renault firstly refused to accept the first service had been done as the service was done by a 3rd party garage. We provided proof that the car was serviced. Renault then requested proof that genuine parts where used. We had the 3rd party garage provide copy of all invoices for parts used, this they did and all parts where supplied from Renault.

Renault would still accept that the car was serviced as the work was 'to neat'. We have now invested over £1000 in an independent inspection that proves, with out a shadow of a doubt ,that the car was serviced.

After all this Renault have come back and said they will not hounour the warranty claim as the car was over the 12 months service interval.

The inspection has also proved that the failure is down to a failure within the engine not associated with servicing. Renault are quoting £11000 for the repair. We accept that the car was possibly four to five weeks over the time frame but the has to be a certain amount of leeway on the timings?

As anyone got any advice or had a similiar experiance?

Hi pmits, sorry to hear of your issues.

I too have had issues with a waranty claim in the last 12 months. I managed to persuade the manufacturer that in this instance he should agree to stand the cost; but I guess nearly 30 years in the trade helped me to demonstrate that his arguement was tripe!

As regards your problem, I can understand the manufacturer sticking to his guns if a car serviced outside of the network & overdue then has an engine fault. You see the manufacturer can argue that had the car been serviced on time & by one of his dealers they MAY have noticed that a fault was impending.

At the same time, I too would hope that some leeway would be granted, especially if you run a number of his cars.

My best advice would be to approach Motorcodes who Renault subscribe to http://www.motorcodes.co.uk/images/stories/documents/new_car_code.pdf

Failing any success you can always tell the dealer & renault that you will be switching your fleet to a more accomodating franchise & dealership in the future.

Good luck

Thanks for the the help. The car is only over it's service interval by about five weeks. What I am realy trying to find out is what is considered a reasanoble time over the twevle months to get the car serviced in, as the vehicle is saying 2000 miles until service due.

We also have an independendant inspection that states the failure is not due to lack of servicing but to a sudden component failure.

The annoying point of this is that Renault have not brought the lack of a second service up before now. The have asked for each piece of information, including the inspection, and we have complied with each request. We have had to spend over £1000 to comply with each request and NOW they say NO based on an overdue service stamp. If this would have been raised in the first place we would not have spent to extra money.

The car has also been in the Main dealer for over ten weeks!

The really anoying point is that in the last three to four years our purchases from this one main dealer runs to:

3 * Magane

2 * Koleos

1 * Nissan 350Z (Dont ask!)

1 * Nissan Xtrail

and over the top service a repair costs! Customer loyalty seems to count for nothing!

It is generally in the hand book that the service must be performed within 12 months +or- 1 month and/or 1000 miles.

However, Go directly to the selling dealer and politely indicate that if no assistance is forthcoming your custom will go elsewhere.

Worked for me with problems when 3 out of 4 new cars were faulty/damaged on delivery. all were replaced.

let us know what happens.

We too have bought a koleos, had it from new our pride and joy, it had its second service about a month and a half ago, whilst driving in it two weeks ago horrendous sound started coming from engine, had it towed to a dealer, they think the big end has gone at 29,000 miles!!! It's never been worked hard the last service was 2000 miles out due to dealer having no courtesy cars available we now have to wait while they take the engine apart to see if Renault will honour warranty, there was no noise, rattle or engine lights before hand it just went. strangely a year before a man came up to us outside a take away shop in York and told us of his experience with a koleos his engine having gone, Renault replacing it and then it going again where he then insisted on a new car not a koleos I am wondering if this is some sort of problem they are having with them but am very worried they will try and get out of the warranty also, anyone else had problems needing the whole engine replacing?

Sorry to read about your problems.

Car manufacturers have to draw the line somewhere, sadly, so as in my post above they generally have a tolerance of approx 1 month 1ooo miles , but there is no harm in getting the service done early too if getting a courtesy car is a problem, if someone had said rent a car for £25 for the day and save yourselves £1000s would you have accepted. If your car was a diesel (which i strongly suspect), the damage Might (and that is an opinion) have been caused by diesel entering the sump and diluting the oil, this is a common feature of dpf fitted cars where regeneration fails due to unsuitable use, too many short trips and engines not getting hot enough for long enough to allow the regeneration to complete. There was a lady recently on here with similiar problems to yours also with a renault and she has now had her car replaced by motability as it was evidently not fit for the type of usage she required. which engine do you actually have and what year is your car, if it is the variable turbo lubrication failure due to contaminated oil won;t help. But as your service was done (was it done by a renault dealer?) check the correct oil viscosity and acea grades were used. should be on your invoice. you might just have a case against the servicing garage if you can prove the lubricant was wrong, but don;t pin your hopes on that.

Hi, yes it was the 2L diesel engine and yes we took it back each service to the renault garage we bought it from- we should find out tomorrow what they intend or not to do, but the sickening thing is we had this car bought for us cash, after weeks of looking at all the different makes, and we have had it serviced albeit a little out, but surely if the engine packs in by going over by 2k on a service, we would have been better sticking with the £300 escort bought from auction we traded in for it-(we also had a scenic at the time) as it probably would still be going now!!- very interesting and expensive learning curve but if they do try and wiggle out of it will certainly be taking it as far as we can, especially in light of what the man told us who stopped us outside the takeaway told us,doesn't do stress levels any good!!!!

The car is a 59 reg, but bought in Feb 2010 - hoping not the worst mistake we made but tomorrow should tell,

if you have had it serviced at that dealer, maybe you'll have a better result, don't forget, check those invoices and remain polite and courteous, but firm.let us know....read the renault koleos forum, subject engine failures, worth registering.

£11000 for an excahnge engine is ludicrous! About half the price of a new Koleos I am guessing.

Have today heard they are standing by the warranty and putting a new engine in - thank you Renault :)

Good result - once again it pays to be persistent.

New engine in and had car back just over a week, have smelt exhaust fumes in the cab during this time was taking it back tomorrow thinking exhaust not connected quite right, horrible screeching noise on light revving this morning, took it back to garage, turbo has gone now!!!! Had to leave it there again....

New turbo fitted and a week and a half later turbo gone again, can we ask for a new car now? As obviously with new engine, new turbo and it going again we have lost faith in car, don't know what to do or what we can do....

get them to fix it and go and trade it in, or get another car from them, but not a diesel and not a turbo, get what you can out of it and walk away. happened once to me, car becoming uneconomical to keep, but lost £1500 when selling but no more headaches, sounds as you are very unlucky. Ask renault and the dealer for a "gesture" if you get another car from them.

We have now heard renault are putting another new turbo and now a new cat too!!! So in the last eight weeks we have had a new engine, two new turbos and a new cat converter all under the Renault warranty which has been fantastic of them but we can't understand why they are putting another new turbo and cat on when before the original engine went it was all fine and since fitting new engine two turbos have blown!!!! I really think it will blow the next turbo too - It is a shame as we loved the car, but would be more than happy to swap out of it for another renault ( had scenics before and they were great) - I wonder how any more parts will be replaced :s-to be honest if it could be fixed for long enough we probably would trade it in but would lose a fortune- first new car we ever bought!!! - will see what happens this time but will probably ask them for a swap to a grand scenic
