Ford S-Max / Mondeo - Ford 2.0 EcoBoost engine - Willr

Anyone got real-world feedback on what this engine is like to live with e.g any problems, real-world MPG (anybody get close to claimed 40mpg from Ford specs on a longer run at steady speed)?

Also, any downside to the version with higher output (240hp) over standard tune (203hp)? e.g is it much thirstier under normal driving condiitons?

I've just bought an S-Max 2.0 Ecoboost Titanium x sport with the 240ps engine and the powershift gearbox

Positives:
It's a very smooth ride despite the 18" wheels, although my previous car was an Audi A6 S-Line on 18" wheels so that wasn't exactly easy on the back
The engines is incredibly smooth compared to a diesel, no more rattles on start up and when sitting in traffic it's whisper quiet
I paid at least 4k less for the petrol version versus the equivalent diesel sitting next to it on the forecourt
The engine is excellent - I'm not afraid to overtake and there's plenty of power available. I'm really pleased not to be in a diesel anymore!

Negatives:
The Nav Plus system is good, but not brilliant, I'd give it 8.5\10 as there are some quirky things like the rear view camera not working unless you have the radio or CD on.
I've only done 500miles, but I'm yet to get above 30mpg average, although no journeys yet above 25miles but I am filling up with the expensive shell petrol so that should help.
I don't yet know how much the car will be worth when I sell it in a couple of years time, hopefully they'll be more problems with diesels which have spent their life doing the school run and I can cash in! To be honest I'm enjoying the car so much I don't care!

Welcome to the forum, Uptheposh (are you from Peterborough I wonder?).

Similarly, I've got a petrol (Octavia vRS estate) after five diesel cars, and the good news is that your fuel economy should improve as the car is run-in. Mine will do a sporting 38 mpg on a long run, but it w asonly 33-34 when the car was new last March.

Running reports are very useful, and I hope people will put more of them on here. In due course I hope you'll let us know how you get on with the Powershift gearbox: similar in principle to my Skoda's DSG, but I hear mixed reports of the Ford installation.
