Fabia Greenline Estate V Ceed Ecodynamic ?? - dovharris

Dear all,

Please don't laugh too loud! I'm an old git, so don't need vroom!

I intend to buy either a Skoda Fabia Greenline Estate OR a Kia Ceed Ecodynamic. Basic spec, Fabia=£12k ; Ceed=£13K

Main criterion is comfortable and quiet motorway driving where I can put on the radio and hear it - not the wind, engine, road surface etc.

Which of my chosen 2 is the better at this?

One factor: Fabia delivery time=6 mnths; Ceed=2 mnths!!

Cheers, Dave

Dear Dave,

Have you taken both of them on a test drive which includes motorway driving? If you tell the garage you're a potential serious buyer I'd have thought you would be able to take each for enough time to find out which one suits your criteria.

All the best

Having read quite a few customer comments about harsh ride of the Ceed and not of the Hyundai i30 and having run a Fabia vRS that despite uprated suspension and lowish profile tyres was very refined on the motorway, I'm going to guess the Fabia. But as Trilogy says the only way is to test drive each on the motorway and see how different surfaces cause different noises in each car.

dovharris - are you an old git who does enough mileage and types of journey to justify a modern diesel, especailly if fitted with a DPF? 15,000+ miles with plenty of motorway trips - i.e. 2 to 3 a week?

If not consider the petrol option - I've just done a search and the Skoda is available through brokers with a 1.2 or 1.2TSi engine for less than £10,000.

Hi

You can compare both online at http://www.autoebid.com/carCompare.asp?locator=48264&locatorb=45352

The Greenline is by far the best seller out of the two and that should tell you something.

Thanks everyone for your replies - most helpful.

I ended up buying the Skoda greenline.

I know it's a diesel, and I don't do 15k miles per year (although do about 10k, mostly on motorways). But I like modern diesels, with their stronger torque.

The Skoda dealer didn't have a greenline in stock, so I couldn't try it. So buying blind!! Couldn't face going to the Kia dealer, with all the pressure selling.

The delivery time was 6 months+, but he managed to locate one on its way to the UK so should be here in 2 weeks. Amazing. 1 up for the Skoda dealers.

Once again, thanks for your help.
