Evening all,
My car had its MOT today and failed on tyre with damage to side wall (although when I got it changed for part worn the guy couldn't believe they would fail it for that!) and also for head light alignment.
As they hadn't called me, I went down to ask how they were getting on with the MOT (almost 3 hours after they had got the car at booked in time!) and they told me it had failed on the above items. I told them that I would get the tyre replaced at a part worn place, and that the head light could be done by then.
When I took my car back 20min later, parked it up and was told it would be at least an hour again, so I said I'd head back home. As it was cold though, I decided to go sit in the cafe opposite the garage for a coffee. I also had a good view of the car for the whole time.
In that hour, the garage manager came out to check whether I had changed the tyre and that was it until I went back. No one else looked at the car and nothing else was done - it did not move from the car park.
I then was told it was ready and that it had now passed.
My question is this:
The garage only had 1 person registered to do MOTs. Shouldn't it be that person who checks the tyre?
The headlight adjustment was charged for by them, but they apparently did it before the car got off the ramp....and before I said it could be done. Is this allowed? What if I had said I'd get it done elsewhere!
Fair enough, the MOT was only £27 but that doesn't mean they can recoup costs by making things up!
