Hi,

I have a Focus that struggles to start first thing in the morning. It does start eventually but makes a horrible noise.

It starts fine afterwards for the rest of the day though.


Any ideas what could be wrong ?

If it's making a clattering, banging noise with vibration through the clutch pedal it could be the DMF (dual-mass flywheel) failing, which is known to occur on this model.

If it's just slow starting, posibly the glow plugs are tired/kaput, or the battery is on the way out?

My '03 model was slow starting in the cold until Ford updated the ECU map, as apparently there was an update to improve matters.
