BMW 5 Series E60 525 petrol - Noise when accelerating - Tomar

My automatic 525 makes a ticking or buzzing sound when accelerating. It does not do it when revving in neutral.

The car is 3 years old with 9,000 miles.

Any ideas?

Put into drive put the handbrake well on and with the engine running does it still make the noise the alternator has I believe a clutch mechanism which can produce various noises when it starts to fail.
