i recently brought a auris from a car supermarket a couple months ago,it has started having the brake squeal problem which is a common problem on the auris which toyota has known about and has a fix. the question is should toyota fix it free of charge even thou my car is out of warranty.

They are under no obligation to do so, it's down to how nicely you ask.

surely they should pay for as it is a design fault not a wear n tear problem.as the problem can b solved by removing the piston plate and new design brake pads plus toyota grease

anyone know the correct upgrade to the brakes to stop squeaking? my brake pads has the centre groove and also metal shims(toyota make) but they still squeak when brakes lighty applied no squeak on hard braking.

anyone know the correct upgrade to the brakes to stop squeaking?

For all cars 9 times out of ten, remove pads, clean everything up, apply small amount of coppaslip to the back of the pads and between the shims and pistons if shims fitted.

Squeal gone, should take half an hour tops.

i tried that but still get squeak on light braking.if i remove piston plate and apply copperslip on back and refit will that help or should i get rid of plate?

When you say piston plate, are you referring to the shim between the piston and the pad?

If so that's possibly where the sqeal is coming from, a wipe of coppaslip on both sides of the shim should do the trick, or could be the pad(s) touching the caliper and vibrating gently where it touches, setting up the squeal.

Before you do that though....

I've had a nose on the Toyota forum and it seem there are modified shims available that might work, but new modified pads also might be the order of the day.

If your car has a decent service history and the main dealer doesn't want to try for goodwill for you (be surprised if they don't Toyota dealers are good at customer care), then you could try ringing Toyota head office at Burgh Heath, they may well authorise a goodwill warranty job.

i dont mean the shim but the piston looks like it got a cap/plate on it

anyway i removed piston plate smeared copperslip on shims and refitted brakes, squeal gone just a squeak now and again mayb the back brakes piston plate needs removing aswell.do that when they replacing.
