Car accident advice - jacr13
Hi

My first post and it's asking for advice, apologies.

I was in an accident on the motorway the other day, at the top of a slip road I was waiting to leave the motorway when a car drove int the rear of my vehicle. Due to it's age and value, I'm sure my car is a write off.

At the place the recovery truck took us, they told us our accident company had referred the matter to a third party as it was clearly the other parties responsibility. When I checked with my insurance company, they denied this and I asked what to do. They said it was up to me.

I chose to call the third party company back and cancel them being involved as I had been lied to or mislead and then called my insurer and went through all the information to make a claim.

Now, I don't know if I have done the right thing. I'm worried about losing my no claims discount, my excess, I clearly was not at fault. I'm now without a vehicle and my insurer may provide a courtesy car but only for two weeks.

Am I doing the right thing? Should I contact an accident management company which I am told many insurers recomend, or is it to late to do so? Any advice
would be appreciated!

Car accident advice - Falkirk Bairn

If it had been me I would have done the following

1)Notied my Ins Co about the event, but not claim at this point.

2) I would have contacted 3rd party insurer and ask them to provide you with a suitable car within 24-48 hrs or you would go and hire one, at their expense.

3)3rd party will view car, assess the costs etc

4) Ask for their decision ASAP asnd take it from there.

3rd party/3rd party insurer is to blame so get them to fix it or compensate you.

10 years ago I was hit up the back, asked for a car or I would hire one (similar size to my 2 week old car), the hesitated and then I said £20 /day to them was less than the £60 / day if I hired one.............I got a car for 3 weeks with them footing the hire car and the insuranvce under their company - Hire Co wanted £5.00/day from me to cover excess
