Audi A4 Avant 2.0 TDi S-Line - Audi A4 Avant - tyre wear - A4 Avant

Anyone had experience of poor tyre wear ? My Audi is a 2008late run model. I am on my third set of front tyres after 20,000 miles - total cost to date £700,

Two sets of Continentals followed by Bridgestones this time but no apparent improvement. I do not drive the car hard so do not believe that it is my driving style.

Any suggestions ??

Do they wear evenly, what sort of driving do you do, town, city, rural, motorway. Regards Peter

Not surprising with one of the makes mentioned.

Try something else, and maybe rotate to even the wear out?

Hi - even wear and predominantly driven on a mix of rural and town roads.

I have a 2010 A4 Avant diesel. I have previously had B6 and B7 diesel A4's and they all chomp front tyres but the rears last forever.

My front Bridgestones have 11K on them and I think they will probably only do another 4K topps I'm guessing. I do 85% motorway cruising too.

These Bridgestones are hopeless tyres for wear, but I found Falkens very good on my last car in every respect and they are cheaper too. Nonetheless 3 sets in 20K is excessive.

Try a pair of Michelins. I have a Skoda Superb (very distant cousin of the Audi but very similar front suspension but much less power) and found it wore out Bridgestones fairly quickly although not quite a bad as yours (about 13k). Goodyears were nearly as bad but I get 35k + out of Micheling Primacy HPs. Car now 117k always with even front wheel wear.

The primacys are good but the price of them can only be described as vicious !

I have an A4 Allroad which has just munched its way through a full set of tyres at just 10000miles. My previous cars - Volvo XC70, Subaru Outback all did well over 25000 miles so this Audi is clearly vicious on tyres compared with other car makes.

Any other Audi 4WD owners having the same problem ?

Depends mostly on the tyres. My Audi Quattro tyre wear varies considerable on the tyre fitted. My current tyres have done more miles already than the previous ones did in their whole lifespan yet they are hardly worn (6mm).

Mainly driving stye I guess. These engines are quite torky and do tend to go through the front tryes. The back set seem to last ok, so just send back tyres to front, if you can be bothered, when changing the front.

I got 30k miles on an Audi A4 TDI.. from the rear tyres and 20k + from the fronts. I don't drive slowly but do check tyre pressures regularly.

As the OP did not mention any maintenance of tyres.. nor checking the tracking - both obvious causes of tyre wear - I suggest possible neglect or careless or abrupt driving styles - excessive braking, accleration or parking on full lock ...
